James Biteman

Position: Vice President
Term: December 2022-December 2026

Director Biteman was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a middle-working class industrial city.  He relocated to McKinleyville in year 2000, from Arcata, having moved here from New Orleans in 1995.

Educated at Purdue University, Lafayette, Indiana, he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering and, at Harvard University, he earned a Doctor of Business Administration degree from Harvard’s Graduate School of Business. He received additional education from Indiana University (Fort Wayne) – graduate studies in Finance, and at Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio) – doctoral studies in Chemistry.

He was employed first as an engineer, later as a manager in chemical research and still later as a superintendent of a heavy manufacturing plant in southern Michigan.  After completion of his doctoral studies at Harvard, he entered into an academic career, first at an engineering university (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY) and later in business (Freeman School, Tulane University, New Orleans).  He also served as head of the Finance area at Russell Sage College (Troy, New York) and Chairman of the Business Department at Skidmore College (Saratoga Springs, NY)

His teaching career led him to Executive MBA teaching assignments around the world, including China, Colombia, and Czech Republic.  It also led him into contract management/training with companies based in Europe and China. He worked as office manager for professional firms (medical and architectural) and served as a board member of nonprofit organizations, including a position as Executive Board Committee member and Treasurer of a regional arts organization in New York State.

Locally, he has volunteered with SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) to assist owners of small businesses, and he assisted small business owners as they acquired a business from their employers.  At Humboldt State University, he taught Marketing, International Business and the capstone course in the business program at and he developed and administered an online bachelor’s degree program.

He joined the MCSD Board of Directors in January of 2023.  He currently serves as a member of MCSD’s Audit and Finance Committee and as its representative (and board member) at RREDC (Redwood Region Economic Development Commission).
